My first encounter with 19th Century Art was an introduction to the temptress Olympia. Representing defiance against the Establishment, the empowerment of females and sexual identity, the provocative painting left the bourgeois of the day scratching their heads wondering what Manet was possibly thinking painting the cadaverous nude. I didn't quite understand the journey the site of this artwork would take me on nor the passion of all things French this would spark within me.
My journey has begun and I have fallen down the rabbit hole into 19th Century France, a time of spectacle and awe. A time that France as we know it today was born, the City of light and love.
Jusqu'à la prochaine fois mon ami!
